ಭಾಷಾ ಅಭಿಯಾನ, ಅಭಿಯಾನ : ಎತ್ತ, ಏನು, ಹೇಗೆ ?

“Bhaasa Abhiyana, Abhimana: Yetta Enu Hege” was the last session from the platform of Harate Katte at the the Mangaluru Lit Fest 2024. Prakash Belawadi and Dr. Ajakkal Girish Bhat were the panel members of the event.

The session included in-depth conversations about the campaigning and fandom about language that is prevalent. Radhakrishna Holla was the moderator of the session.

Prakash Belawadi spoke about the Hindi imposition referring to the loopholes in the societal arrangements. He also referred to the constitution while doing so. He further spoke about the relation between the constituencies created by the British and language revolution. When a question was raised on “Why can’t concepts related to science and technology be translated to our Kannada language?”, He answered that it is because it is tough to translate and you don’t impose this difficult on the children.

Girish Bhat stressed on the importance of knowing multiple languages and not sticking to one. He gave example of Narendra Modi who knows Hindi very well even if it’s not his mother tongue and the advantage he has gained because of it. He also spoke about co-existence of difference cultures in ancient India and how it has changed over time. He spoke extensively regarding the richness of language and it’s determinants.

Radhakrishna Holla talked about how literary figures started the language revolution and how it has passed on to the agonists in the present society. The session ended with a fruitful question and answer segment.
