“Whatever happens, Rangabhoomi has no end”: Na Da Shetty.
“Rangabhoomi: Experiments and lessons” was the last session from the platform of Harate Katte at the of the Mangaluru Lit Fest 2024. Na Da Shetty and Shashidhar Narendra were the panel members of the event. Various facets of the theatre were discussed by the panelists. It included experiments in theatre, like the plays in which every single audience is considered as actors. This is when the director has felt it necessary for the script. The person reading the plays must be familiar with the acting approach. Not everyone reads plays because only the actor understands it.
Panelists mentioned about “Navilina motte” gay play without any conversation. How you build up the mindset of the actors, likewise it transfers to the audience. Example: Waiting in the play “Waiting for goddo”.
Discussed about how children can be trained for theatres from a very young age and the application of New Education Policy in the same. They had conversation about audience, who already have a pre conception about a lot of concepts and this usually doesn’t not let that change. The one who are refered to as leftists have a special liking towards plays and they believe that plays are powerful. Everyone needs to have this belief. They discussed about possibilities of theatre. The scripts in general which can be mended to contemporary needs. Directors need to stoop to the level of the audience and make plays understanding the audience’s pulse and not expect the audience to match their intellectual level. The session ended with a fruitful question and answer segment.
