India must take action against the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh: Dr. Swasti Rao
UN Permanent Representative Ruchira Kamboj sheds light on relations with neighboring nations.
“The Government of India should not sit idle while Hindus are being killed in Bangladesh; immediate action should be initiated in this issue,” said Dr. Swasti Rao, Consulting Editor of The Print and Associate Professor at O.P. Jindal Global University.
Speaking at “India’s Challenging Neighbourhood: Role of Extra Regional Powers” session in the 8th edition of the Mangaluru Lit Fest, she discussed the diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.
“The developments in Bangladesh are alarming. In 1971, when a major crisis arose in Bangladesh, India intervened to protect the people. However, Hindus are being killed there once again. The Indian government must take some form of action regarding the issue of Hindu killings,” she said.
“India maintains good relations with all nations, including the USA, Russia, the European Union, and the African Union. Regarding neighboring countries, India has extended significant assistance to all of them. These nations must and will stand as strong support in the coming days,” she said.
Responding to a question about China’s gradual influence over SAARC nations, she said, “India is facing several challenges regarding SAARC. Primarily, India boycotted the SAARC summit a few years ago protesting against Pakistan sponsoring terrorism. However, India should not completely ban the SAARC summit. Instead, it must find an alternative strategy; otherwise, China will gain control. A new solution must be found before China establishes its grip.”
Participating in the same discussion, UN Permanent Representative Ruchira Kamboj shed light on India’s diplomatic matters. “India’s contribution to its neighboring nations is immense. Whenever problems or natural disasters have occurred in neighboring countries, India has provided significant help. It has stood by them during emergencies. Credibility is very important here, and India has always maintained the trust of those who have placed their faith in it,” she said.

‘ಬಾಂಗ್ಲಾದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದೂಗಳ ಹತ್ಯೆ ಆಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ನೋಡುತ್ತಾ ಕೂರಬಾರದು, ಈ ಕುರಿತು ತಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ರಮ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ದಿ ಪ್ರಿಂಟ್ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಸಲಹಾ ಸಂಪಾದಕಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಓಪಿ ಜಿಂದಾಲ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಟ್ ಪ್ರೊಫೆಸರ್ ಡಾ. ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ರಾವ್ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಲಿಟ್ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್ 8ನೇ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಎರಡನೇ ದಿನದಂದು ನಡೆದ ನೆರೆಹೊರೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳ ಸವಾಲುಗಳು ಎಂಬ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು ಭಾರತ ಮತ್ತು ಬಾಂಗ್ಲಾದೇಶದ ನಡುವಿನ ರಾಜತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ‘ಬಾಂಗ್ಲಾದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗಳು ಆತಂಕಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. 1971ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಂಗ್ಲಾದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಉದ್ಭವವಾದಾಗ, ಭಾರತ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಜನರ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗೆ ಮುಂದಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಈಗ ಮತ್ತೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದೂಗಳ ಹತ್ಯೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಹಿಂದೂ ಹತ್ಯೆಗಳ ವಿಚಾರವಾಗಿ ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಏನಾದರೂ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
‘ಭಾರತವು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೇಶಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ, ರಷ್ಯಾ, ಯೂರೋಪಿಯನ್ ಯೂನಿಯನ್, ಆಫ್ರಿನ್ ಯೂನಿಯನ್ ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಇನ್ನು, ನೆರೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದಾದರೆ, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಸಹಾಯಹಸ್ತ ಚಾಚಿದೆ. ಆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳು ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಬಲವಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಲ್ಲಲಿವೆ’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಸಾರ್ಕ್ ದೇಶಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಚೀನಾ ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಹಿಡಿತ ಸಾಧಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯೊಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದ ಅವರು, ‘ಸಾರ್ಕ್ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತ ಹಲವು ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ, ಭಯೋತ್ಪಾದನೆಗೆ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಭಾರತವು ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸಾರ್ಕ್ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಹಿಷ್ಕಾರ ಹಾಕಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಭಾರತವು ಸಾರ್ಕ್ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನವನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಬಾರದು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೇರೆ ಕಾರ್ಯತಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಚೀನಾ ಹಿಡಿತ ಸಾಧಿಸಲಿದೆ. ಚೀನಾ ಹಿಡಿತ ಸಾಧಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊದಲು ಹೊಸ ಪರಿಹಾರವನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಇದೇ ಸಂವಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಖಾಯಂ ರಾಯಭಾರಿ ರುಚಿರಾ ಕಾಂಬೋಜ್ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಭಾರತದ ರಾಜತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ವಿಚಾರಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲಿದರು. ‘ನೆರೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಭಾರತದ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ದೊಡ್ಡದು. ನೆರೆರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಾದಾಗ, ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ವಿಪತ್ತುಗಳಾದಾಗ, ಭಾರತವು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ತುರ್ತು ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಏರ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಂತಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹತೆ ಬಹಳ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಭಾರತವು ತನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಇಟ್ಟು ಬಂದವರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
