Bhyrappa’s works lead one through the path of knowledge to supreme bliss: Arjun Bharadwaj
“The titles of Bhyrappa’s novels are deeply evocative and rich with resonance. Take the novel Daatu, for instance; it could mean a boat, a bridge, or the act of ‘crossing over.’ In this way, the titles of all his novels radiate various meanings and nuances,” said Arjun Bharadwaj.
Speaking at the session titled “Art, Rasa, Dhvani, and Indianness in Bhyrappa’s Literature,” he used the Vedantic concept of Panchakosha Viveka (the Five Sheaths of Consciousness) as a backdrop. He explained, “In Panchakosha Viveka, there are five sheaths: Annamaya (food), Pranamaya (vital air), Manomaya (mind), Vijnanamaya (wisdom), and Anandamaya (bliss). Here, the arts relate to the Manomaya sheath. One should experience a spark of joy there, resulting in Rasananda (aesthetic bliss), and then achieve realization through the Vijnanamaya sheath. Bhyrappa has demonstrated through his works how one ultimately travels the path of knowledge to attain supreme bliss (Paramananda).”
Another thinker, B.N. Shashikiran, spoke and said, “Bhyrappa utilized his works for the analysis of values. It was his literary conviction that one can reach the path of spirituality by traveling through the path of literature. He chose the novel genre and ensured that aesthetic essence (Rasa), resonance (Dhvani), and ‘Indianness’ were manifested through his characters. In his works, he presented a voice that understands the world’s conflicts and seeks to find a state of equilibrium.”
It was evident from the speakers’ discourse that both resource persons had deeply studied S.L. Bhyrappa’s works, contemplated them thoroughly, and developed a profound analysis. As they cited numerous characters as examples, the audience was astonished by their depth of knowledge. The gathering was left spellbound by the manner in which each character was analyzed.

‘ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಗಳೇ ಧ್ವನಿಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿರುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ದಾಟು ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅದು ದೋಣಿ ಅಂತಾಗಬಹುದು, ಸೇತುವೆ ಅಂತಾಗಬಹುದು ಅಥವಾ ದಾಟಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಎಂಬರ್ಥವೂ ಇರಬಹುದು. ಹೀಗೆ ನಾನಾ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು, ಧ್ವನಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅವರ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಗಳು ಹೊಮ್ಮಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು’ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಜುನ್ ಭಾರದ್ವಾಜ್ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
‘ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲೆ, ರಸ, ಧ್ವನಿ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾರತೀಯತೆ’ ಎಂಬ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವೇದಾಂತದ ಪಂಚಕೋಶ ವಿವೇಕವನ್ನು ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಾಗಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು, ‘ಪಂಚಕೋಶ ವಿವೇಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನ್ನಮಯ ಕೋಶ, ಪ್ರಾಣಮಯ ಕೋಶ, ಮನೋಮಯ ಕೋಶ, ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಮಯ ಕೋಶ ಮತ್ತು ಆನಂದಮಯ ಕೋಶ ಎಂಬ ಐದು ಕೋಶಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲೆಗಳು ಮನೋಮಯ ಕೋಶಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದವು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದದ ಚಳಕು ಕಾಣಿಸಿ ರಸಾನಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗಿ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಮಯ ಕೋಶದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ಕಾರ ಹೊಂದಬೇಕು. ಕಡೆಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗಿ ಪರಮಾನಂದ ಹೊಂದಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬ ಚಿಂತಕರಾದ ಬಿ.ಎನ್. ಶಶಿಕಿರಣ್ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ‘ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರು ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣೆಗೆ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗಿ ಅಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮ ಮಾರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ತಲುಪಬಹುದು ಅನ್ನುವುದು ಅವರ ಕೃತಿ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅವರು ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಪ್ರಕಾರವನ್ನು ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಂಡು ಅದರ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕವೇ ರಸ, ಧ್ವನಿ, ಭಾರತೀಯತೆ ಪ್ರಕಟಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸಂಘರ್ಷಗಳನ್ನು ಅರಿತು ಸಮಸ್ಥಿತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಧ್ವನಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪಡಿಸಿದರು’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಎಸ್.ಎಲ್. ಭೈರಪ್ಪನವರ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಮಥನ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಕುರಿತು ಸೂಕ್ತ ರೀತಿಯ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಯುವಂತಿತ್ತು. ಅನೇಕ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಉದಾಹರಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು ಅವರ ಜ್ಞಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಚಕಿತಗೊಂಡರು. ಒಂದೊಂದು ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನೂ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ರೀತಿಗೆ ನೆರೆದ ಸಭಿಕರು ಮಂತ್ರಮುಗ್ಧಗೊಂಡರು.
