Tear-jerking stories of soldiers’ families: Listeners moved by sagas of military heroism
A session was organized to share information about the army and recount the poignant stories of military families. The session featured Vikas Manhas, who since 1999 has dedicated himself to visiting and consoling the families of soldiers martyred in war, and Akash Raj, who runs the “Military Mantra” YouTube channel to assist aspirants in joining the armed forces.
Recalling his visit to the home of Bengaluru’s Major Ajay Sharma after his passing, Vikas said, “Ajay Sharma had purchased a new kurta for a wedding. However, he passed away a week before the event. When I visited his home later, his wife, for some reason, gifted that new kurta to me. I accepted it but couldn’t bring myself to wear it for a long time. On my 41st birthday, I finally wore it and sent her a photograph. Surprisingly, although Ajay was fitter than I am, the kurta fit me perfectly.” He recalled several other incidents, describing the horrific violence endured by some soldiers. He detailed how one soldier was tortured and killed—his fingernails were ripped out, his eyes gouged, and nails were driven into his forehead. The parents of Captain Pranjal from Mangaluru were also present in the audience during this session.
The other guest, Akash Raj, shared his experiences as well. After repeatedly trying and failing to join the army himself, he decided to help others achieve that goal. He now inspires the youth by interviewing soldiers and providing training for military recruitment through his YouTube channel.

ಸೇನೆಯ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೇನೆಯ ಕುಟುಂಬದವರ ಕರುಣಾಜನಕ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ 1999ರಿಂದ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟ ಸೈನಿಕರ ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಸಮಾಧಾನ ಹೇಳುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ವಿಕಾಸ್ ಮನ್ಹಾಸ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೇನೆ ಸೇರಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಆಗುವಂತೆ ಮಿಲಿಟರಿ ಮಂತ್ರ ಯೂಟ್ಯೂಬ್ ಚಾನಲ್ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆಕಾಶ್ ರಾಜ್ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಮೇಜರ್ ಅಜಯ್ ಶರ್ಮಾ ಮೃತಪಟ್ಟಾಗ ಅವರ ಮನೆಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಭವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದ ವಿಕಾಸ್, ʼಅಜಯ್ ಶರ್ಮ ಒಂದು ಮದುವೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆಂದು ಹೊಸ ಕುರ್ತಾ ಖರೀದಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ, ಆ ಮದುವೆಗೂ ಒಂದು ವಾರ ಮುಂಚೆ ಅಜಯ್ ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಬಳಿಕ ನಾನು ಅವರ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ಅವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಆ ಹೊಸ ಕುರ್ತಾ ಅದೇಕೋ ನನಗೆ ಉಡುಗೊರೆಯಾಗಿ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಅದನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ಹಾಕಲು ಮನಸ್ಸು ಬಾರದೆ ಹಾಗೇ ಇಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೆ. ನನ್ನ 41ನೇ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬಕ್ಕೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಚಿತ್ರ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ್ದೆ. ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಎಂದರೆ, ಅಜಯ್ ನನಗಿಂದ ಫಿಟ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಆ ಕುರ್ತಾ ನನಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಫಿಟ್ ಆಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತುʼ ಎಂದರು. ಇನ್ನೂ ಹಲವು ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಅವರು, ಕೆಲವು ಸೈನಿಕರು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ ಹೀಂಸಾತ್ಮಕ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಒಬ್ಬ ಸೈನಿಕನ ಪ್ರತಿ ಉಗುರನ್ನು ಕಿತ್ತು ಹಾಕಲಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೀಳಲಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಹಣೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮೊಳೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆಯಲಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಹೀಗೆ ಹಿಂಸೆ ನೀಡಿ ಹತ್ಯೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಕ್ಯಾಪ್ಟನ್ ಪ್ರಾಂಜಲ್ ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಯರು ಕೂಡ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.
ಸತತವಾಗಿ ಸೇನೆ ಸೇರಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿ ಆಗದಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರಿಗಾದರೂ ಸೇನೆ ಸೇರಲು ನೆರವಾಗಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ವಂತ ಯೂಟ್ಯೂಬ್ ಚಾನಲ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಹಲವು ಸೈನಿಕರ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೇನೆಗೆ ಸೇರುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತ ಯುವ ಜನತೆಗೆ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆಕಾಶ್ ರಾಜ್ ಈ ಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬ ಅತಿಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ಅನುಭವ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು.
